No one should forget the courage it takes to become a soldier and the sacrifice they make for our freedom. We were all young once, some of us still are and many soldiers will remain so forever. Below is a list of the Top 10 Patriotic Songs that we feel are very powerful and tell real life stories about fighting for our great nation:
10. ‘Letters From Home’- John Michael Montgomery
Moms and Dads have to leave their families behind in order to fight for freedom.
I hold it up and show my buddies
Like we ain’t scared and our boots ain’t muddy
And they all Laugh ‘Cause she calls me honey
But they take it hard, ‘Cause I don’t read the good parts
I fold it up and put it in my shirt
Pick up my gun and get back to work
And it keeps me Drivin’ On, waitn’ on
Letters from home
9. ‘Have You Forgotten’- Darryl Worley
We get so caught up in our everyday life and forget how many years our Country has been fighting to keep our freedom.
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn’t worry ’bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
8. ’Brothers’- Dean Brody
No one wants to see their sibling leave to war because it may be just a one way ticket. This song is about two brothers and the oldest leaves for war, but promises to come home. He eventually returns home, but is permanently disabled in a wheelchair.
Well, it had been two years,
And I held back my tears
When I saw him in that wheel chair on the shore.
And as I ran and held him tight,
That’s when he looked me in the eye
And said I’m sorry that you have to push me home.
And I said hey, this is what brothers are for.
7. ’If You’re Reading This’- Tim McGraw
Sometimes soldiers leave and never return. Many soldiers will die battling for freedom for their Country. No one will ever understand the amount of courage it takes to be a soldier. This song was written about a soldier who did not make it home alive, but wants everyone to remember the good times that were shared and always remember they will see each other again someday.
If you’re reading this
My Mommas sittin there
Looks like I only got a one way ticket over here
Sure wish I Could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids
6. ‘Only In America’- Brooks & Dunn
Only in America is where you can be free and dream as big as you want.
Only in America
Dreaming in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America
5. ‘American Soldier’- Toby Keith
The story told in the song is of a family of four and the dad is heading out to the war to support his family and his Country. It also flashes back to a time that war had just begun. This is significant because America is only a free country because of the Armed Forces who have fought and are still fighting for our freedom to this day. “Freedom don’t come free,” Toby Keith says in this song.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey I’m true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice,
Oh, and I don’t want to die for you,
But if dying’s asked of me,
I’ll bear that cross with an honor,
‘Cause freedom don’t come free.
I’m an American soldier, an American,
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty’s in jeopardy I will always do what’s right,
I’m out here on the front lines, so sleep in peace tonight.
American soldier, I’m an American,
An American,
An American Soldier
4. ‘Independence Day’- Martina McBride
This song is about a family whose mom is abused by the father and the child witnesses the pain and suffering the mom is going through. In the music video, the young daughter goes to the local Independence Day festival and when she returns home, her house is completely in flames.
Let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong, roll the stone away
Let the guilty pay it’s Independence Day
3. ‘God Bless the USA’- Lee Greenwood
It might be safe to say that everyone knows this song. There is pride in every American heart.
And I’m proud to be an American where as least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the USA
2. ‘Where Were You (When The World Stop Turning)’– Alan Jackson
Our Country will never forget September 11, 2001. This song takes you back to a time of devastation. Suddenly nothing else mattered but being with your loved ones.
Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don’t know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out with pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin’ what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?
1. ‘Courtesy Of The Red, White, and Blue’- Toby Keith
Toby Keith will forever be known as a Patriotic singer. Let the lyrics speak for itself.
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way
